On and around Poros live people from all over the world. We meet up with one of the "foreigners" who lives here, even though she now has now become local, she still remembers what it is like to move here, and the difficulties and the joys of an alternative home country. Mia Blaauw is Dutch by birth, but now considers Greece her home. Her knowledge of the Greek way of life is second to none, and her love of the country shines through. We asked her a few questions about living in Greece.
Tell us a little about yourself - I love life, painting, going to the gym; being on the move; having fun; my son and ny friends and my parrot. But not necessarily in that order!

When did you move here? And why?
I moved here in 1972 when I met my ex-husband. I stay here even after my divorce because this is my home.

What work do you do here?
I work in tourism, and I am opening a shoe shop soon. I am also a business agent for the export of ceramics.

What are the things you like about living here
I love the beauty of Poros, the people, the way of living and the unconventional attitude of life in Greece.

What is the most difficult thing about living here
The civil services, going to an office for a paper and being sent to 10 others!

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of moving here?
It is a good idea, but forget about things being done today! be happy it might be done tomorrow. If you can't live with that don't move here. Also I would recommend that you come and stay a winter first before you make any decisions.
