There are many local people that do interesting work in the area, and in each addition we will meet a different one. This time we went to meet one of Poros’ Notaries ( this is a term we were not familiar with, and so we wanted to find out more.) We went to Niki Sotiropoulous’ office next to the Town Hall on Poros and she kindly agreed to answer a few questions for the magazine so that we could get a better understanding of her work, and get to know a little about Niki herself.

What , in Simple terms does a Notary do?
Notaries are used to sign contracts concerning many areas, such as land, property, wills, power of attorney, and generally any papers to be used in a court of law.

Are you the only Notary in the area?
No, I am one out of four; there are three women and one man practicing on Poros and the local area. I am the youngest one.

Are you a local person?
No, I was born in Athens, and I lived for some time in Kalamata, until I was eighteen. I then went back to Athens to attend University to study Law for four years. Then I worked as a Lawyer for five years in Piraeus, until I applied to come to Poros. I wanted to come here because of the beauty of the Island, and I would like to make it my permanent home.

What do you do in your spare time?
Normally I am studying because I am taking more exams in English, but when I have some free time I listen to music, Latin music mainly, and go driving around the area. I have tried sailing, but I don’t have the time to become very good at it! In the evenings I do what most people do, I go to Tavernas with my friends to eat and drink.

Where would you most like to go in the world, and why?
I would like to visit Spain and Portugal, because I love their music and their culture. I’ve always wanted to go to England for Christmas, I think it must be special there.

In one sentence , how would you describe yourself?
A hardworking girl! I am too sensitive which can be a good thing, but it ruins my stomach. (That’s two sentences – Editor)
