When October arrives the Olive trees are weighed down from the weight
of the Olives. The grass is becoming green again, and new flowers are appearing,
although not as prolific as Spring they still give a good display of color
and smell. The weather has become more bearable after Summer, the need for siesta is over. Swimming is lovely in the still warm sea, and spending the day on the beach with a picnic is a great way to pass the time. The locals are busy checking their Olive trees, getting reading to harvest them at the right time. The Olive Presses come out of their summer hibernation, and become the focal point for all activity, being mobbed with Olives from every direction, carried towards them by any means possible, from a single bag on a motorbike to whole |

lorry fulls from the bigger
farms. Anything that moves will be carrying Olives for the next few months! This is the true Greece, where everyone is working their land, helping each other, and the Tavernas are full in the evenings of cheerful bragging. (I must just say that our Olives last year were particularly good!!). I think this is a great time of the year to visit Greece. |
