Seasons in Greece - Summer

No matter where you are in Greece, there is always a local cockerel to herald in the dawn, sometimes also a cry from humans to perhaps be a little quieter!! The star filled nights are best for staying outdoors eating and drinking, talking about the days events, everything seems almost magical when the warm wind blows across the evening venue. The beaches become popular again, and the smell of sun cream mingles with the smell of calamari cooking at the local taverna. Cold beers or wine at lunch time to aid the siesta, act as a prelude to the evenings full mealtime. Life has turned from the Spring habit of early to bed, to eating late at night when the air is a little cooler, when the appetite is back. The land is now scorched brown, but the olive groves are still green, the new olives budding, giving promise of a fair harvest, who knows? Will there be enough rain through the summer to fill out the olives? Only time will tell. |
