POROS TRIATHLON

We are happy to announce a triathlon on the island of Poros, organized by the municipality of Poros. The event will be held the 8th of October 2005.
It is an open contest, an invitation to every sportsman that might be interested.
We especially look forward to the participation of non professional athletes.

The race has different levels of difficulty in order to satisfy the demanding and well trained athlete but also the simple novice that wants to test his/her physical capacities for the fist time.
The hardest difficulty level comprises a complete tour that is more physically demanding, but also more interesting.

The triathlon of Poros comprises of running, mountain biking and swimming.
Mountain biking if the major activity and three different distance formats are proposed.
Every participant can create his/her own combination according to his/her will and capabilities.
The participation to all activities is not obligatory and it is possible to skip one or even two of them.

Running:
3,3 km with 70m of uphill essentially on road and into the small streets of Poros town.

Mountain biking:
Short trail 14,5km
Medium trail 29km with 716m of uphill
Big trail 43km with 967m of uphill
Essentially on trails, rough roads, some single tracks and some classic asphalt roads of the island.

Swimming:
2x500m (from the Russian bay to the island of Daskalio and back).

Every athlete must decide in advance in witch activities (s)he will participate and witch bike distance (s)he will compete on.

Start
By 11.30 or one hour after the arrival of the first boat from Pireus.
For athletes that will arrive in the morning by boat or other means of transportation, a drop off place for luggage and equipment will be provided.
There is no prize money but presents will be drawn and awarded to some lucky ones.
There is possibility of camping on a beach of the island.
There is no need for a support team or vehicle.
The athletes will be timed and ranked according to the category they are competing in.
A party will be held on a beach of the island.
